LVTI Items of Interest

Welcome to the Lynn Trade and Lynn Vocational Technical Institute Alumni Archives website.  I'm looking for content to add  to our archives: articles, photos, past events and history of the school.  If you have material you would like to share, please email it to lvtiaa2@gmail.com. We welcome material on alumni, students and faculty.
Content for LVTIAA has two locations on the internet, the http://www.lvtiaa.com/ main website and Google's Picasa Web Albums, web address http://picasaweb.google.com/lvtiaa2 . I've been concentrating on material from the 1960's and early 70's, little is available from these years. Some examples are listed in the slideshows to the right. I've recently re-arranged the Picasa Web Albums into school years, the content of these albums contain photos, class scroll photos, yearbooks, and news articles for that school year. Some of the material is submitted by alumni from around the country, the rest is from the Library's microfilm of old Daily Evening Item articles.  If you don't see any material for your year, it's because we don't have it.
A quick way of searching for a graduate on this site can be done by typing the graduates name in the upper right "Search this Site" field, keep in mind not all the years are listed on this site, only 1948 thru 53, and 1956 thru 74.  I will continue to add news articles from the Lynn Public Library in the coming months. Anyone wishing to help add articles please let me know.

- A little school history -

In 1948 Lynn’s newly designated third secondary school, Vocational High School, held its first graduation ceremony at which a class of 70 seniors were awarded diplomas by Mayor Stuart A. Tarr, under the direction of Ralph W. Babb until his retirement in 1950.

In 1950/51 Michael C. O'Donnell held the director spot until his retirement 1971.

In 1953, the 37-member graduating class at Lynn Trade High School took part in the setting of a milestone during the commencement exercises. The pupils received the first diplomas marked "Lynn Trade High School."

In 1971, director James A. Pelley took charge of the new “Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute”, now located at 80 Neptune Blvd. and graduated its first class in 1972 of 104 students.

The first two graduation commencement exercises, 1948/49,  were held in the Classical High School auditorium; in 1950 they were held at the E. J. Harrington School’s auditorium until 1971; the first graduation program at the new Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute was conducted in 1972 when diplomas were presented to 104 graduates during exercises in the school cafetorium.

    Checkout the Daily Evening Item Articles which includes these Graduation Years. '48, '49, '50, '51, '52'53, '60, '61, '62, '63, '64, '65, '66, '67, '68, '69, '70, '71, '72, and '73.
